FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior right-hander Brooke Weekley has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Wednesday.
Weekley (Mission Viejo, CA/Capistrano Valley HS), a business administration major with a concentration in marketing, is one of 33 student-athletes named to the three-team honor roll and is the second Titan to earn Academic All-America honors this season, joining men's soccer player Eugene Brooks, who was named to the first team in November.
She qualified for the honor after earning a spot on the All-District 8 Team earlier this month.
Weekley graduated summa cum laude from the university this spring, earning Dean's List and Big West Conference Scholar-Athlete honors from 2004-07.
A member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society for business and management and a member of the National Soceity of Collegiate Scholars, Weekley was also president (2006-07), vice president (2005-06), and secretary of the university's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Excelling on the field as well, Weekley posted a 9-4 record with a team-best 1.81 ERA, striking out 67 in 85 innings pitched. Opponents hit just .234 against her this season as she helped the Titans to a 38-23 overall record, an NCAA regional championship, and the program's first-ever berth into the NCAA super regional round.
Weekley, a 2007 Big West Conference Honorable Mention selection, finished among league leaders in ERA (4th), opponent batting average (6th), strikeouts (10th), wins (t8th), saves (t2nd), and appearances (10th).
