Titans Complete Series Sweep over CSU Bakersfield

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans softball team completed the series sweep over the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners after winning a doubleheader on Saturday.  

The Titans won both games in run-rule fashion on Saturday after taking the first game 8-0 and second game 10-2. 

The Titans won all three games in run-rule fashion after winning last night 11-0.  The Titans (17-13, 4-2 BWC) outscored the Roadrunners 29-to-2 for the weekend in only 15 innings total.

The Titans batted .500 (35-for-70) for the weekend and outhit their opponents 35-to-8 for the weekend.  Jessi Alcala led the Titans by batting .750 (6-for-8) with 5 runs, 2 home runs, and 6 RBIs.

In the first game of the day on Saturday, Jessi Alcala was the hero of the game after blasting two home runs and providing half the RBIs of the game. Daisy Munoz and Alexa Neil each had 2 RBIs in the game as well.

The Titans went ahead in the first inning after Daisy Munoz singled in Alexa Neil for the first run of the day.

In the third inning, Jessi Alcala led the inning off with a solo blast over the LF fence.

The Titans added three runs in the fourth inning after Jessi Alcala swatted her second home of the day and fifth of the season.

The Roadrunners threatened to score in the fifth inning after getting runners to third and second with no outs.  However, Haley Rainey was able to get two strike outs and a fielder's choice to escape the jam unscathed.

In the bottom of the fifth, Bailey Wallace and Anaiya Mitchell got on board on a double and a base hit. Alexa Neil singled up the middle to score both runners.

Daisy Munoz got the walkoff hit on a knock to left field that scored Alexa Neil and gave the Titans the shortened run-rule victory.

Haley Rainey tossed a 5-inning complete game shutout and allowed three hits, two walks, and struck out two.

In the third and final game of the series, the Titans once again got their third run-rule victory of the weekend.  

The Titans had 14 hits for the game and everyone in the starting lineup had a base hit.  Peyton Toto and Daisy Munoz both had three hits for the game.

The Roadrunners actually took the lead first and scored their first two runs of the weekend in the second inning on two doubles and a walk in the inning.

The Titans responded in the bottom of the inning with one run after Bailey Wallace had an infield knock to score one.

The Titans tied the game up in the third inning after Peyton Toto had an RBI single to LF.

The Titans Put up a 5-spot in the fourth inning.  Bailey Wallace led the inning off with a walk and Alexa Neil reached on an infield error.  Hannah Becerra smacked a triple off the wall to score the two runners.

Jessi Alcala walked and took off for second base and got in a rundown and Becerra scored on the play.

Daisy Munoz would double and Evelyn Sablan worked a walk to give the Titans two runners again.  Peyton Toto and Alexia Lopez had back-to-back RBI singles to score two more runs and make it a 7-2 game.

In the fifth inning, the Titans had two baserunners after a single, walk, and a fielder's choice.  Daisy Munoz had a short popup that turned into an infield single that bounced off the diving pitcher into the dugout to give the Titan two runs. 

Peyton Toto singled to the shortstop to score the final run and give the Titans the walk-off win over the Roadrunners.

Raci Miranda picked up the win after tossing 5 innings and allowing three hits, two runs (one earned), two walks, and fanning six batters.  After the second inning where CSUB scored, Miranda retired 10 straight and allowed a walk in the fifth inning before striking out the final CSUB batter of the evening.

The Titans will close out a 16-game homestand with a matchup against No. 6 Stanford on Wednesday at 6:00 pm pending the weather.  The Titans will head out on the road for their first Big West away series next weekend at UC Riverside.
