Titans Defeat CSU Bakersfield in Series Opener

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans took advantage of 10 walks as they defeated Cal State Bakersfield 11-0 in five innings in their series opener on Friday night at Anderson Family Field.

The Titans (15-13, 2-2 BWC) had more walks than hits for the game.  They had 10 walks, 8 hits, and one hit by pitch as they faced the conference's worst staff ERA in their opposition. 

Myka Sutherlin struck out 9 in four scoreless innings to pick up the win and Raci Miranda tossed a scoreless inning of relief.  

The Titans took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.  They loaded the bases to start the inning with an Alexa Neil single and walks from Hannah Becerra and Jessi AlcalaDaisy Munoz brought the first run in on a sac fly.

Evelyn Sablan brought a run in on a productive groundout to first and Kika Ramirez singled in a run to make it a 3-0 game.  

The Titans added one run in the second.  Hannah Becerra smoked a two out double to center field and Alcala brought her in with an RBI single up the middle. 

The Titans exploded for seven runs in the third inning after the Bakersfield pitching lost control of the strike zone.   The Titans started the inning off with six walks and one hit by pitch to bring in four runs.  Jessi Alcala singled in a run to left field to bring in the fifth run of the inning.

Daisy Munoz brought in a run on a fielder's choice and finally Deshea Hill singled in a run to make it 7 runs for the inning. 

The Titans scored seven runs on just two hits but they worked seven walks in the inning as they sent 13 batters to the plate.

The Titans will conclude the series against the Roadrunners tomorrow as they play a doubleheader at 2 PM and 4 PM.
