WESTWOOD, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's softball team won their first game of the 2023 season after defeating Utah State 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles.
Myka Sutherlin tossed a complete game shutout with a new career-high 14 strikeouts. Sutherlin had a no-hitter going until the sixth inning where she allowed an infield single. The senior faced just two batters over the minimum. Her previous career high in strikeouts was 13 on February 21st, 2020 against Chicago when was pitching for Pacific University. Her previous career high as a Titan was 11 against CSU Bakersfield.

The Titans had six hits in the win with Jessi Alcala providing two of them. Hannah Becerra scored both runs and scored the first run of the 2023 season with a solo jack over the CF fence in the fourth inning.
In the sixth inning, the Titans added a second insurance run all with two outs in the inning. Becerra was hit by a pitch and Daisy Munoz worked a walk. Jessi Alcala singled in Becerra with a knock through the right side.
The Aggies got their first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a weak infield hit to shortstop. The Aggies got their second hit in the bottom of the seventh off a hit off the outfield fence but Megan Delgadillo was able to wipe out the runner at second with an outstanding throw from center.
The Titans now head home for their first home games of the season and the home portion of the Easton Classic. The Titans will take on Cal at 12:00 p.m. and the University of San Diego at 2:30 on Saturday.
