Softball Defeats CBU 9-5

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - After struggling a bit offensively on Monday at San Diego, Cal State Fullerton softball's bats came alive on Wednesday as the team won at California Baptist by a score of 9-5. The team recorded a season-high 11 hits and was led by freshman Bailey Wallace with two hits and three RBI while senior Julia Valenzuela had three hits and three runs scored in three plate appearances.

The Titans fell behind in the bottom of the first inning but Savannah Serrata came on in relief to get the final out of the inning. Fullerton took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second when Valenzuela started a two-out rally with a double down the left field line. The Titans then drew four consecutive walks as Kika Ramirez and Megan Delgadillo drove the two runs in.

CBU hit a solo shot in the bottom of the second to tie the game but didn't record another hit until the fifth inning as Serrata settled in nicely. She earned the win to move to 2-2 on the year. The freshman had a line of 4.1 innings pitched, three hits, one earned run, two walks and two strikeouts. 

Fullerton erupted for four runs in the third and three in the fifth to bust the game open. The top of lineup delivered as Delgadillo (two RBI), KK Humphreys (one RBI) and Hannah Becerra (two RBI) were responsbile driving in five of the team's runs. The other four were driven in by Wallace and pinch hitter Ramirez. 

The Lancers scored three runs in the sixth, two of which were unearned.

Next up, the Titans return home to to play Boise State on Saturday (12 p.m. and 2 p.m.) and Sunday (9:30 a.m.). All three games will be broadcast live on BigWest.TV.
