CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton (8-5) split their final two games of the Mary Nutter Classic with a 2-0 loss against Oregon State and a 4-3 victory to upset No. 16 Arizona State.
After putting up 12 runs on 22 hits in the two games before, the Fullerton offense was unable to get anything going against Oregon State. Mariah Mazon would go the distance with a complete game shutout holding the Titans to just two hits.
The Beavers got a run against Dani Martinez early with a run in the bottom of the first. The sophomore right-hander would cruise until the fifth where she was tagged for a solo home run. She finished with a complete game loss, throwing six innings allowing two runs on just three hits.
Deshea Hill's two-out double in the second and Julia Valenzuela's single in the third were the only two Fullerton hits in the 2-0 loss.

The Sun Devils and Titans were setting themselves up for a pitchers' dual as both teams threw up zeros in the first two frames. ASU would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with a run to take a 1-0 lead.
Fullerton would answer big in the top half of the fourth plating four runs to take the lead. Daisy Munoz (1-for-3, two RBI) had the big hit with a two-RBI double to give the Titans the lead. Kelsie Whitmore (1-for-3, RBI) added to the lead with an RBI single. The fourth run would come in to score on a wild pitch.

Arizona State would chip away with single runs in the fifth and sixth, but Sophie Frost (2 innings, one walk) would shut the door with a one-two-three seventh inning to secure the win.
Trish Parks got the start in the circle and picked up the win tossing five innings allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and six walks while striking out six.

The win over No. 16 Arizona State marks the highest-ranked win for the Titans since upsetting No. 3 UCLA in the 2018 NCAA Regional. Parks was the winning pitcher in both games.
Cal State Fullerton is back in action with four six games next weekend as they host the prestigious Judi Garman Classic.
