CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton (7-4) split their doubleheader on Saturday with a tough, 8-7 loss to Utah before closing out the night with a 5-4 comeback victory over Notre Dame.

The first game for Fullerton was a wild one on Saturday night as the Titans fought back from a six-run deficit to eventually take the lead, but would ultimately fall, 8-7, to Utah.

After a quiet first inning, Utah broke it open in the second pushing six runs across against Dani Martinez (6IP, 9H, 8R, 4ER, 4BB, 3K). Only two of the runs would be earned though as a costly error from Sam Kennedy really got the rally going for the Utes.

The Titans would chip away with a run in the bottom of the second and a run in the bottom of the third.

It would stay a 6-2 ballgame up until the bottom of the sixth where Fullerton would plate five runs including the first career home run for Megan Delgadillo (2-for-4, HR, 2RBI). Daisy Munoz (1-for-3, 2RBI, BB) had the game changing hit with a two-out two-RBI double giving the Titans a 7-6 lead.

Clinging to a one-run lead, Martinez would surrender a walk and a single to the first two Utah batters before Coach Ford would go to the bullpen. Trish Parks (IP, H, BB, 2K) would come in and eventually allow a pair of runs to come across as the Utes reclaimed the lead.

Deshea Hill got the bottom of the seventh started right with a leadoff single. Unfortunately, some bad luck for the Titans would follow as Kelsie Whitmore (3-for-4, 2 2B, R) would line into a double play before a groundout handed the Titans their first loss of the weekend.

Game two started scoreless through the first two and a half innings as Sophie Frost (3.1 IP, 8H, 3R, BB, K) got out of jams in her first three innings of work.

In the bottom half of the third, the Titans would plate a run on a Notre Dame error to take the lead. However, the Fighting Irish would rally in the fourth for three runs to take the lead.

The 3-1 score held until the bottom of the sixth. With a runner on first, Janelle Rodriguez would come in to pinch hit and she launched a two-run shot to right field to tie the game up at three. Later in the inning, Alexa Neil (1-for-2, RBI, BB) would hit a sinking line drive into left center with runners on second and third. The center fielder would make a diving catch, but bobbled the ball on the transfer allowing two runs to come.

Looking for the final three outs, Parks would allow one run in the top of the seventh but would ultimately lock it down and give the Titans a 5-4 victory.

Cal State Fullerton is back in action tomorrow with another doubleheader to close out the Mary Nutter Classic. They'll face Oregon State at 11:30 a.m. and then No. 16 Arizona State at 2:00 p.m.
