NCAA Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Fifth-year senior Trish Parks has been nominated for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year award, which is one of the most prestigious honors in college athletics. The NCAA made its announcement on Wednesday.

An NCAA record 585 female college athletes have been nominated by NCAA member schools for this year's honor, with 262 coming at the Division I level.

Established in 1991 and now in its 29th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

The nominees competed in 23 different women's sports, and 144 were multisport athletes during their time in college.

Parks received her undergraduate degree in Sociology and is currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program with a cumulative 4.0 GPA.

She currently works with children of all ages K-12 at her internship with the West Covina Unified School District providing them with individual or group counseling. In the future, she plans on becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and eventually receiving her Ph.D. in Social Work.

Over the course of her time here at Fullerton, she has made the Dean's List three times as well as the Big West Commissioner's List in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Most recently, she was named the Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2019.

On the field, the right-handed pitcher dominated for the Titans pitching to a 3.14 ERA in 39 career appearances. She missed the 2019season due to injury, but was a crucial part to Fullerton's third straight Big West Championship in 2018.

In her 2018 campaign, she threw 111.1 innings going 12-3 with a 2.45 ERA. She sported a perfect 9-0 record in conference play and threw 26.1 of a possible 30 innings in the NCAA Regionals allowing just 10 runs on 26 hits.

The NCAA encourages member schools to honor their top graduating female student-athletes each year by submitting their names for consideration for the Woman of the Year award.

Next, conferences will select up to two nominees each from the pool of school nominees. Then, the Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division.

The selection committee will determine the top three honorees in each division from the Top 30 and announce the nine finalists in September. From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then will choose the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year.

The Top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual award ceremony Oct. 20 in Indianapolis.
