IRVINE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton has been selected to take home the Big West Conference championship for a fourth straight year by the coaches of the conference. The pre-season poll was announced by the Big West Conference on Thursday.
The Titans are coming off three straight titles after yet, another unreal run through conference play last season. In last year's conference action, they won every series and finished with an 18-3 record which is the best mark since 2003.
Overall, the team went 35-25 last season en route to their 28th NCAA Regional appearance. The Titans made their way to the Regional final after upsetting Texas State and UCLA, but would ultimately fall in game seven against the host Bruins.
The Titans will have a good mix of returners and newcomers once again this season as they look to defend their crown and make it four straight conference championships. Among the returners are All-Big West selections Deshea Hill, Ari Williams, Zoe Richard, Sophie Frost, Trish Parks, and Julia Valenzuela. They also bring in 10 new recruits, two of which have international experience as Paola Villegas spent time with the Junior Mexican National Team and Mia Marinakis played with the Greek National Team.
Fullerton's 62 points (six first-place votes) in the poll beat out Long Beach State who received 55 points (one first-place vote). Third place went to UC Davis who tallied up 34 points and a first place vote. Fourth place was Hawai'i who received 33 points. CSUN (32 points), UC Riverside (30), Cal Poly (26), and UC Santa Barbara (16) rounded out the rest of the field.
CSF begins their road to a fourth straight crown Thursday, February 7 against Idaho State at 6:00 p.m.
