FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton opens up Big West play against the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara this weekend. Game one is Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and games two and three will be a Saturday double-header starting at 2:00 p.m.
This will be the 127th time these two programs face each other and Fullerton has dominated UCSB picking up 110 wins to just 16 losses. The Gauchos have actually never won two straight contests against the Titans to date.
The Fullerton offense is virtually the same as it has been all year, led by senior Brooke Clemetson at the top of the order. She's currently hitting .330 on the year and sports a remarkable .455 on-base percentage leading the team in both hits and walks. She also leads the team with 24 stolen bases, which is just four shy of the single-season record. Sophomore Zoe Richard has been the power source lately in the cleanup spot with Deshea Hill missing time due to injury. Richard leads the team with nine doubles and 20 RBI.
In the circle, Sophie Frost continues as the ace of the staff with 9 complete games in her last 9 starts. She has lowered her season ERA down to 1.96 which ranks fifth in the Big West. Number two in the "rotation" goes to Taylor Dockins who continues to impress in her freshman campaign sporting a 2.93 ERA in 67 innings of work.
