FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (14-18) battled all game long, but ultimately fell 3-1 to Loyola Marymount (16-17-1) on Wednesday night.
Sophie Frost got the start in the circle for the Titans and once again went the distance. In her last eight starts, she has eight complete games now. For the game, she gave up three runs (all earned) on nine hits and five walks. It's just the third time this season she's allowed three earned runs in a start.
Offensively, the timely hitting was not there for the Titans. Only recording five hits in the contest, they stranded 11 runners on base. Ari Williams recorded two knocks finishing 2-4 in the ballgame while Zoe Richard recorded the lone RBI, her team-leading 19th of the season. Brooke Clemetson went 1-3 with a walk scoring the only run for Fullerton and stole her 24th bag of the year.
The Titans got on the board early as they plated their first and only run within the first two batters of their first ABs. After Clemetson led the game off with an infield single, she would steal second, advance to third on an error on the throw, and come in to score on a Vandiver fielder's choice.
Frost held the Lions in check up until the fourth inning when they got a bases loaded single to bring in the tying run. She shut them down in the fifth and sixth, but a two-RBI double in the top of the seventh would plate the winning runs for LMU.
It'll be a day break between games as the two ball clubs will finish their series with a double-header on Friday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with game two following right after.
