FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (12-17) fell 14-3 in the Easton Invitational finale to the defending national champion Oklahoma Sooners (24-2) on Sunday.

Kenzie Grimes got the start in the circle and couldn't get out of the second inning going 1.1 innings allowing six runs on four hits. Trish Parks was the first of four relievers on the day for the Titans going 2.2 innings holding the Sooner offense to just one run on two hits. Sophie Frost was fantastic in her two innings of work shutting the OU offense down in both of her innings pitched only allowing two hits. Nyah Rodman came in trying to finish out the seventh when the Sooner offense exploded. Rodman would only record two outs giving up four runs on three hits before handing the ball off to Hannah Johnson. Johnson recorded the final out, but not before giving up three more runs on five hits.

Offensively, Fullerton kept pace in the hit column for the first six innings. The runs weren't there, but they were getting on base. Brooke Clemetson led the way going 2-3 with a walk while freshman Jody Cova was the only other Titan with multiple hits going 2-2 off the bench. Sammie Vandiver went 1-4 with an RBI, while Ari Williams, Shianne Brannan, and Sam Kennedy also recorded a knock in the ballgame. Janelle Rodriguez and Zoe Richard recorded the other two Titan RBIs in the contest.

The Sooners didn't waste any time scoring as Jocelyn Alo launched a home run in the top of the first to give OU the early lead. Five more runs came across in the second inning for the defending champs including a three-run home run from Sydney Romero. The Sooners would add another run in the third on a Lea Wodach RBI single.

The Titans were shutout for the first four innings, not recording their first hit until a Clemetson single in the third. In the fifth, back-to-back knocks from Kennedy and Cova set up the run-scoring situation as Vandiver lined it into left to bring in Kennedy.

After three shutout innings from the Titan pitching staff, Oklahoma's offense exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh. Fullerton did respond in the bottom half with a pair of runs courtesy of a bases loaded walk to Rodriguez and an RBI groundout from Richard.

In the end, it was a 14-3 loss for the Titans marking their fourth consecutive loss finishing the Easton Invitation 1-4 for the weekend.

Cal State Fullerton is back in action for another midweek double-header on Tuesday. This time it will be against the Roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield.
