FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (6-9) was run-ruled 10-0 in five innings by No. 2/2 Florida (18-1) in their first game of the Judi Garman Classic on Thursday night.
Senior Kenzie Grimes got the start in the circle and while she struggled a bit with her location, she held the powerful Florida offense in check through the first three innings only allowing one run on one hit. After getting the leadoff hitter to groundout in the fourth, a triple from Aleshia Ocasio started a huge inning for Florida.
Following the triple, the Gators proceeded to plate nine runs in the fourth inning alone. For the inning, they got a pair of home runs, a two-run and a three-run as they blew the game wide open.
The Fullerton pitching staff struggled to find the zone in the contest as they totaled 10 walks and three hit by pitches among their three pitchers. Of those 13 baserunners, four came around to score as the Titan staff actually held Florida to just seven hits in the game.
As noted, the Fullerton offense only collected one hit and that was courtesy of a Zoe Richard single to left field. Brooke Clemetson aka the birthday girl, worked two walks on the night to extend her on base streak up to seven consecutive games.
In the end, the Titans would fall to the Gators 10-0 in five innings.
Fullerton looks to bounce back tomorrow as they continue the Judi Garman Classic with a double-header as the night cap of tournament day number two. They'll face Stanford at 5:00 pm and Iowa at 7:30 pm
