Titans' Nine-Game Winning Streak Snapped by UCSB

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Titans fell to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Friday afternoon with 4-3 loss in the series opener.

Kelsey Kessler (19-7) took the loss, giving up four runs on six hits and had seven strikeouts. Lena Mayer earned the win, holding the Titans to just three hits.

Shianne Brannan started the rally for the Titans with her fifth home run of the season in the top of the second inning. Kylie Padilla then reached on a fielding error from the Gaucho third baseman. Emily Randall was next at the dish and doubled to left, putting Padilla into scoring position.

Sydney Colenzo brought in Padilla with sacrifice fly, then Delynn Rippy reached on an error, scoring Randall to extend the Titans' lead 3-0.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Gauchos stepped up to the plate scoring four runs on a grand slam by Jessica Johnston to take the lead away from the Titans.

The Titans battled back in the seventh inning, but came up short, and the Gauchos took the win 4-3.

The Titans will play again tomorrow at UC Santa Barbara in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at the Campus Diamond.
