Kessler Shuts out Hawaii in Series Opener

FULLERTON, Calif. -
The Titans defeated Hawai'i in their series opener Friday night 5-0 at the Anderson Family Field.

Freshman Zoe Richard went three for three at-bat with one RBI, and increased her overall average to .298.

Pitcher Kelsey Kessler (13-6) took the win for the Titans with zero runs on six hits and nine strikeouts on the Rainbow Warriors including five consecutive strikeouts in the sixth and seventh inning. Hawai'i's Brittany Hitchcock (16-8) earned the loss with five runs on nine hits and three strikeouts.

In the top of the third inning, Sydney Colenzo and Delynn Rippy singled back to back. Samantha Vandiver hit a sacrifice to advance the Titan runners to second and third. Ariana Williams was next at-bat with a base hit to bring in both runners for the lead. With Williams on base, Lexi Gonzalez homered to command the Fullerton lead 4-0.

To top off the 5-0 win in the bottom of the sixth inning, Zoe Richard singled during her third at-bat and was batted in by pinch hitter Bryanna Ybarra.

The Titans will play again tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. against Hawai'i at the Anderson Family Field.
