Titans Hold on in Doubleheader Against UC Riverside

Riverside, Calif. - The Titans opened Big West Conference play on Saturday with a doubleheader against UC Riverside. In game one, the Titans fell 5-0, but rose back up for a win in the second game 3-1.

Game One

In the first game of the double header against the Highlanders, the Titans lost 5-0. In the first inning, UC Riverside scored from a single to third base for the RBI. The second run in the second inning was batted in with a sacrifice fly to bring the Highlander's lead 2-0.

In the third inning, the Highlanders sealed their 5-0 win by singling to the left side for an RBI, then Madeline Richard and Haley Harris both reached first on a fielder's choice to bring in two more runs, one unearned.

Taylor Misfeldt (8-1) received the win for UC Riverside with four hits, zero runs, and one strikeout in seven innings. Sydney Golden (2-5) took the loss for the Titans with four hits on three runs, all earned, in four innings.

Game Two

The Titans took the second game with a 3-1 win over the Highlanders.

Action took place in fifth inning when Ariana Williams got a base hit. Delynn Rippy then doubled to left center field to advance Williams to third. Samantha Vandiver was next in the lineup and was walked after an illegal pitched was called for ball four.

Alexis Gonzalez then reached on a fielder's choice to bat in Williams and advance Rippy to third.
Mikeaela Francis then singled to left center to bat in Delynn Rippy for the Titan's second run.

After Syndey Colenzo's walk in the sixth innings, Kelsie Whitmore came in the game as the pinch runner and then immediately stole second base. With Kylie Padilla's fielder's choice, Whitmore advanced to third. Ariana Williams then batted in Whitmore from a single down the left line to hold on to the lead for the Titans. UC Riverside scored one unearned run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Titans took home to win 3-1.

Cerissa Rivera (3-1) won her second consecutive game with only one run on three hits and 10 strikeouts in seven innings. Anessa Cepeda (6-1) received her two runs on four hits, all earned in two innings.  

The Titans will finish their series against UC Riverside tomorrow at the Amy S. Harrison field at 1 p.m.
