Irvine, Calif.- Cal State Fullerton senior Cerissa Rivera (Westminster, Calif./Monmouth) established a career high with 11 strikeouts in a shutout victory over Loyola Marymount to earn Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week kudos.
The right-hander, making just her second start of the season, scattered three hits and walked two in the 3-0 triumph.
Rivera allowed singles in the third, fifth and sixth innings but that was all the offense the Lions could muster. She ran into trouble in just one frame – the third – when she allowed a single and a walk to put runners at first and second. That was the only point in the game where Loyola Marymount managed to get a runner to second base. However, Rivera coaxed a groundout to end any scoring threat.
