FULLERTON, Calif.- In the first day of the Long Beach State/ Cal State Fullerton Tournament, the Titans defeated San Diego State 2-0 at Anderson Family Field on Thursday night.
With the win, Fullerton moves to a 10-11 on the season and has a two-game winning streak.
Pitcher Kelsey Kessler took the win for the Titans with a game shutout (7 IP 4 Hs, 2 BB, and 4 Ks). This was Kessler's third shutout of the year with the second one coming from the previous home game against No. 22 Baylor, which resulted in a 1-0 victory.
The Titans remained scoreless with the Aztecs until the fifth inning. Ariana Williams pinch ran for Bryanna Ybarra's single, and then stole second base. Mikaela Francis batted in Ariana Williams for the Titans first run.
In the sixth inning, Samantha Vandiver singled and then advanced to second on a fielder's choice. Trish Parks doubled to bring Vandiver home for the CSUF's second run.
Overall, Fullerton finished the game with six hits, two runs and three errors.
Next, the Titans will continue to host for the Long Beach State/Cal State Fullerton tournament this weekend. The Titans will play again on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Boston at Anderson Family Field.
