PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – After a strong finish at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, the Cal State Fullerton softball team had three players receive All-Tournament team honors, Triple Crown Sports announced Saturday night.
The three Titans named to the All-Tournament team are starting pitchers Trisha Parks, Kelsey Kessler and outfielder Delynn Rippy.
In two starts, Kessler was outstanding in the circle as she collected victories against Mississippi State and Texas Tech while posting one complete game (vs. Mississippi State), 14 strikeouts and a 1.11 ERA in 13-plus innings pitched. The senior now has a team-low 1.84 overall ERA (fourth in the Big West) and team-high 27 strikeouts (second in the Big West).
Meanwhile, Rippy provided a major spark for the Titans at the top of the lineup as she finished the tournament with six hits, four runs, two RBIs and a .333 batting average. She currently sits second on the team in batting average (.345), right behind clean-up hitter Alexis Gonzalez (.348), and leads the Titans in hits with 10 thus far.
Parks did it all this weekend as she pitched six scoreless frames with five strikeouts to lead Fullerton past Florida Gulf Coast on Friday. Then, the sophomore also showed off her bat yesterday by hitting a triple against Texas Tech and belting a two-RBI double down the left field line against Fresno State to complete an incredible nine-run inning for the Titans, giving her team a 10-9 lead.
At the tournament, the Titans finished 3-2 with victories coming against Mississippi State, Florida Gulf Coast and Texas Tech. Fullerton now sits at 4-5 overall and plays seven games in six days next week with the first two coming at Bakersfield on Tuesday at 12/2 p.m. PT.
The Titans will return home on Thursday for a battle with Houston at 6 p.m. PT before heading to Cathedral City, Calif., for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
