FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton softball program has made an addition to its 2017 pitching staff with the arrival of graduate transfer and right-handed pitcher Kelsey Kessler, coach Kelly Ford announced on Wednesday.
"Kelsey's an incredible addition to our pitching staff as she brings a ton of experience to the team," coach Ford said. "She has fit in well and the pitching staff and catchers have welcomed her with open arms. We are really excited for what she can bring to the circle."
Kessler transfers to Fullerton for her last year of eligibility after spending the past three seasons at Arizona State and Kansas. The Blue Springs, Mo., native spent her freshman and sophomore year with the Jayhawks where she posted a 34-23 overall record and led the team to two-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Kessler also pitched a no-hitter against Texas Tech and was one of just two pitchers in the country to shut out eventual NCAA Champion Oklahoma, which was KU's first win over a top-ranked foe in program history.
After sitting out a year due to transfer, Kessler didn't miss a beat with the Sun Devils as she led the team in wins (12) and ERA (2.90). She also threw a no-hitter against Texas Tech in 2016, which puts both of her no-hitters coming against the Red Raiders.
Kessler gives the Titans even more depth within their pitching staff as she joins reigning Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year Sydney Golden, seniors Nyah Rodman and Cerissa Rivera, along with talented underclassmen Trisha Parks and Sophie Frost.
Make sure to come out and support Kessler and the Titans in their home opener against Pacific and Ole Miss at 4/6:30 p.m. PT in the Easton Invitational on Feb. 10 at Anderson Family Field.
