Golden, Rippy Earn Big West Conference Weekly Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – In addition to starting off Big West Conference action with a perfect 12-0 record, the Cal State Fullerton softball team racked up a sweep of the league's weekly honors as freshman right-handed pitcher Sydney Golden and junior rightfielder Delynn Rippy were named Big West Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

The honors mark the second time this season the Titans have collected both Pitcher and Player of the Week accolades in the same week.

Rippy collected her first weekly honors after helping lead the Titans to a 4-0 record last week with a non-conference win against San Diego and a conference sweep at Hawaii over the weekend.

The product out of Oceanside, Calif., finished the week with a .545 (6-for-11) batting average, seven RBIs and one run scored.

She belted her first career home run in Friday's 7-1 series opener at Hawaii as her fifth-inning three-run bomb gave Cal State Fullerton a 3-0 lead.

The following day, Rippy scattered three hits between two games and in the nightcap, drove in the Titans' insurance run as they completed the sweep against the Rainbow Wahine with a 2-0 victory.

In the non-conference game against San Diego, Rippy came up big at the plate as she went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Joining Rippy with her first-ever Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week award is Golden who continues to dominate in the circle as she went 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA at Hawaii.

With the pair of wins, Golden improved to 16-3 on the year, including a 6-0 record in Big West Conference action, as she limited the Rainbow Wahine offense to just one run on 10 hits over 13.0 innings of work.

The Riverside, Calif., native tossed six innings in the series opener and allowed just one run as the Titans defeated the Rainbow Wahine 7-1. In that game, Golden did not walk a batter and struck out three while scattering six hits.

Golden came back the following day and pitched a complete-game shutout in Cal State Fullerton's 2-0 win. She allowed four hits, issued just one walk and fanned two as she helped the Titans to their 13th straight victory.

This season Golden has been spectacular in the circle lowering her ERA to a team-best 1.63. She owns a minuscule 0.34 ERA against Big West Conference opponents and has allowed just two earned runs over 41.0 innings of work.
