Softball Program Receives Four Transfers

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton head softball coach Kelly Ford announced the transfer of four student-athletes on Wednesday.

Catcher-third baseman Alexis Gonzalez (Oregon State), outfielder Sarah Moore (Missouri), catcher Kylie Padilla (Oregon State), and outfielder Courtney Rodriguez (Arizona) have transferred from their respective schools to compete for Fullerton next season.

Brief bios on each of the transfers and their most recent accolades are listed below: 

Alexis Gonzalez  |  5-7  |  C/3B  |  Covina, Calif.  |  Oregon State

Started 43 games, batting .254…Pac-12 All-Freshman Honorable Mention…batted 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a run and a double against UC Santa Barbara on Apr. 2…batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs against Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 27…hit 2-for-4 with two runs, three RBIs and a homer against Pacific on Feb. 22…hit her first career home run against Texas A&M on Feb. 15.

"Along with her Pac-12 experience at Oregon State, Alexis comes to us from one of the top travel ball teams in the country in the Corona Angels. I look for her to become a top RBI producer for the Titans as we look to build on our offensive prowess as a program. Alexis wants to win and help take Fullerton to the NCAA postseason, which is an intangible motivation that will be contagious among all our student-athletes." 


Sarah Moore  |  5-7  |  OF  |  Chino Hills, Calif.  |  Missouri

Started 24 games in the outfield for Mizzou in her first collegiate season, appearing in 30 total games primarily in right field…batted 9-for-53 (.170) in her initial Black & Gold season, including a double and home run…provided run production out of her nine hits, tallying eight RBI…one of two Tigers to earn three walks in a game, recording the feat in the five-inning, 13-1 win over Maryland at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., on Feb. 21…first hit of the season proved to be a big one, putting Mizzou up 1-0 with a home run in the third inning on No. 5 Florida at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Feb. 22…knocked in one RBI on 1-for-2 hitting in the five-inning, 11-0 win at Ole Miss on Mar. 15…batted 2-for-3 with a double in the second game of the Missouri State doubleheader on Apr. 3 in a 7-0 win…had a perfect outing in the second game of the Western Illinois doubleheader on May 1, hitting 2-for-2 with four RBI in the five-inning, 12-4 victory…brought in the initial run of Mizzou's 2-0 win over No. 2 Tennessee on May 4, singling to left field to drive in the run.

"When Sarah takes the field, she can show that she's a true athlete. She is versatile on both the defensive and offensive ends being able to contribute to the team in many ways. I am excited to coach her as I've been really impressed with the positive character she chooses to abide by. Her yearn to be a Titan shows her commitment to the program while her competitive spirit is greatly welcomed." 


Kylie Padilla  |  5-4  |  C  |  Chino, Calif.  |  Oregon State

Started all 49 games at catcher…became the first player in Oregon State history to hit for the cycle and tied a team record with seven RBIs against Penn State on Feb. 7…batted 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI against Utah on Apr. 6…hit 3-for-3 with an RBI and a double against Stanford on May 9…hit 2-for-3 with three RBIs against Georgetown on Mar. 7.

"Kylie started behind the dish for Oregon State and is an all around game manager. She will be like having a player-coach on the field as her leadership qualities are very strong. Kylie has a deep understanding of the sport itself as her mindset and technique will further aide our pitching staff to reach their utmost potential. She has had a great summer playing for the Mexican National Team, and I expect her experience over the summer to have her ready to roll for the Titans." 


Courtney Rodriguez |  5-6  |  OF  |  Scottsdale, Ariz.  |  Arizona

Appeared in 49 games, including 36 starts…competed in all three outfield positions, with the majority of the work coming in right field…batted .127 in 63 at-bats… scored 10 runs…clouted one double and drove in three runs during the campaign… slugged .143 and got on base at a .154 clip…stole one base in two attempts…laid down four sacrifice bunts…recorded three outfield assists…drove in a run in her second collegiate at-bat when she drew a bases-loaded walk against Northwestern on Feb. 8…College Station Regional: started all three games in right field and collected one hit in seven at-bats…put down a key sacrifice bunt in the seventh inning against Penn on May 18 to push the tying run into scoring position, a run that would eventually come in to score, with two strikes.

"Courtney will be an immediate impact player for our program as she brings with her some valuable Pac-12 experience. She has the potential to be an offensive force as she has a very rounded repertoire at the plate. Combine that with her stellar defensive play while being able to compete at a high level in all three outfield positions, Courtney will be an important piece of our team."
