FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton junior defender Jenae Gibbens has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Tuesday.
The San Diego native was one of 33 student-athletes honored nationally on the three-team honor roll, earning praise for their achievements in the classroom and on the field.
Gibbens, a marketing major at Cal State Fullerton, qualified for the honor after earning a spot on the All-District 8 First Team earlier this month and is one of only four District 8 honorees to make the Academic All-America teams.
On the field, Gibbens was named the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Big West First Team after scoring four goals and assisting on two more to rank tied for fourth on the team in scoring.
She led a Fullerton defense that held 10 opponents to fewer than 10 shots in a match and helped the Titans to a share of the Big West Conference regular season title and the program's third consecutive Big West Tournament crown.
Fullerton finished the year 12-8-2 overall and 6-2 in the Big West, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight season and the fourth time overall.
