Thompson Nets Big West Player of the Week Honors

Oct. 22, 2007

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior midfielder Stacey Thompson was named the Big West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after helping the Titans to wins over Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge last weekend.

It is the first career weekly honor for Thompson (Saugus, CA/Saugus HS), who becomes the third Titan player honored by the conference this season, joining junior defender Jenae Gibbens (Sept. 17) and freshman midfielder Christina Murillo (Oct. 1).

After being shutout statistically in Fullerton's 1-0 win over league-leading Long Beach State, Thompson exploded offensively on Sunday night against Cal State Northridge, scoring the game-winning goal and assisting on the Titans' two others scores in their 3-0 shutout of the Matadors.

The performance brought Thompson's season totals to three goals and a team-best five assists - good for third in the league.

Cal State Fullerton now leads the league with three players honored as Player of the Week and is one of only two schools (UC Riverside) to have multiple player's honored by the conference this season.

Thompson and the Titans return to action this weekend with a single game on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 28) as the Titans head east to take on UC Riverside at 1 p.m.
