Final Stats

FULLERTON, CA - Long Beach State's Lindsay Bullock netted a hat trick and teammate Nicole Hubbard scored twice on the night to lead the visiting 49ers to a 5-2 Big West Conference women's soccer victory over host Cal State Fullerton in front of 387 fans on Sunday night at Titan Stadium.

The five goals scored by Long Beach State (10-3-2 overall, 3-0-1 in the Big West) were the most by either team in the history of the series dating back to 1998, eclipsing the four goals scored by Fullerton in that first-ever meeting - a 4-3 victory in Long Beach. The seven combined goals also finished tied for the most in the history of the series and the five goals allowed by the Titans were the most since San Diego posted a 5-0 victory over Fullerton in 2001.

Bullock, who entered the match with just two goals on the year, scored her three goals on a match-high seven shots - five of those on net. She put the 49ers ahead early in the 16th minute, heading the ball over the Titans' keeper off a long cross from midfield by teammate Chantel Hubbard.

Fullerton (5-10, 2-2) tied the match four minutes later as senior Geminesse Martinez's long free kick from the left side deflected off the Long Beach State wall and knuckled into the right-side netting to draw the Titans even. It was Martinez's second goal of the season.

That's when the floodgates opened for Long Beach State as Bullock added her second score in the 34th minute, another header that floated in to the right side off a long kick by teammate Alex Balcer, and the 49ers carried the one-goal lead into the break.

Hubbard then made it a two-goal advantage with her second of the year just eight minutes into the second half, launching a rocket from around 30 yards to the right side to make it 3-1, and Bullock completed the hat trick in the 74th minute converting on a penalty kick for the 4-1 advantage. Hubbard then added her second of the match two minutes later heading home a pass from Shawna Gordon through a crowd in front of the net in the 76th minute to cap the scoring for the 49ers.

Freshman Lauren Mellano got one of the goals back in the final minute of the match, heading home a corner from teammate Kishi Smith for her second of the year with 51 seconds remaining.

Long Beach State outshot Fullerton, 20-10, for the match - the most shots by a Titans opponent this season - and had seven corners to just one for Fullerton.

Freshman Erica Mazeau led the Titans with three shots on the night as Fullerton finished in double digits in that category for the second consecutive match and the fifth time overall this season.

Cal State Fullerton closes out its final homestand of the year next week as the Titans host Cal Poly on Thursday (Oct. 21) at 7 p.m. before welcoming UC Santa Barbara on Sunday (Oct. 24) at 5 p.m.
