Box Score

OMAHA, NE - Freshman Nikki McCants took a match-high four shots and senior Christina Murillo put all three of her shots on frame on the day, but visiting Cal State Fullerton couldn't find the back of the net on Sunday afternoon, falling to host Creighton by the score of 3-0 at Morrison Stadium in Omaha.

The loss was the fourth straight for the Titans, who fell to 2-6 overall on the year with three of their defeats overall this season coming via the shutout. The Bluejays improved to 6-2-2 overall on the season led by a stout performance in net by goalkeeper Alicia Montgomery, who made eight saves - including six in a second half that saw the Titans outshoot Creighton by a 9-3 count - to record the clean sheet.

Kelly Connolly netted her first goal of the year (and the game-winner) in the 21st minute, taking a cross from teammate Emily Orbell and heading it into the back corner for the 1-0 lead. It was the first of two assists for Orbell, who also helped on Lauren Cingoranelli's second-half strike in the 64th minute to cap the scoring.

The Bluejays added their second goal in the 26th minute, recording an own goal by the Titans to complete the scoring.

Sunday marked only the second time this season that Fullerton has had 10-or-more shots in a match and the second time that the Titans have had an advantage in that category this season, both coming since they took a season-high 20 shots against Eastern Washington on Aug. 29 at Titan Stadium in a 4-0 win over the Eagles.

The offense, however, has struggled, netting just one goal in its last three matches, outscored over that stretch, 8-1.

Cal State Fullerton stays on the road for a single match next week, heading south to take on San Diego State on Friday (Sept. 24) at 1:30 p.m.
