FULLERTON, CA - Visiting BYU scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the match while the No. 14 Cougars' defense held host Cal State Fullerton to just two shots en route to a 3-0 victory on Monday afternoon at Titan Stadium.

The Titans, whose season opener at Cal State Bakersfield on Aug. 20 was suspended due to a power failure, opened the year 0-1 overall while BYU, which defeated Long Beach State 2-0 on Aug 20, improved to 2-0 overall on the season.

Jessica Ringwood had a goal and an assist on the day to pace the Cougars' offense while Kassidy Shumway and Jennie Marshall also found the back of the net in the first half to get BYU out to the early lead.

Shumway netted her second goal of the season in the fourth minute as a misclear put the ball at the feet of Ringwood, who shuffled it to the left side where her teammate snuck a shot under a diving goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. Marshall added her first of the year five minutes later as her cross from near the end line on the right side curved in toward the net, deflecting down and into the net off the left post to make it 2-0 match.

The score remained that way until the 83rd minute when Ringwood put the capper on the victory, taking a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that deflected off the right hand of the leaping Fullerton keeper, taking just enough off the shot to bend it into the left side of the net for the final 3-0 tally.

BYU clamped down on the Fullerton offense, holding the Titans to just two shots on the afternoon - both coming the first half by freshmen Kaitlyn Mendoza and Nikki McCants.

Mendoza's chance came in the sixth minute as she took control of a turnover by the Cougars' backline and drove into the box where she was tripped up by the keeper as her shot trickled wide. McCants then had a header off a corner in the 38th minute that sailed off target to the left.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Sunday (Aug. 29) at 1 p.m. as the Titans host Eastern Washington in non-conference action at Titan Stadium.
