WSOC Signs Seven Newcomers

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's soccer head coach Demian Brown announced on Tuesday that seven student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the program for the 2019 season.

Nadia Amezcua

"I chose to attend CSUF because it's a renowned university, it has a strong biological science program that I believe will help me get into medical school, it's a large and diverse campus, it's close to home, and the women's soccer program is the ideal place I see myself continuing my athletic career."

Amezcua, a West Covina native, is set to graduate from Walnut High School in the spring of 2019. She is a four-year letterwinner at Walnut, playing soccer all four years. She multiple accolades such as First Team All-League as a sophomore and a junior and League MVP as a junior. She was also named to the All-League Academic Team as a junior. She helped lead her team to league championships in 2017-18. 

"She is a hard working, grind-it-out central midfielder with an outstanding work rate and the ability to make dangerous passes and maintain possession," Brown said.

Amezcua will pursue a degree in biological sciences and aspires to be a dermatologist as she wants to help people solve their medical problems and give back to the community. She is the daughter of Miguel Amezcua and Tabitha Li and has two sisters. 

Lulu Barger

"I chose to attend Fullerton because I loved the coaching staff, the positive atmosphere, and the campus and location. I'm so excited to continue my education as a Titan."

Barger is a native of Carlsbad and will graduate from San Marcos High School this spring. Due to academy rules, she was only able to play for her high school team during her freshman and sophomore years. As a sophomore on the varsity team she garnered Second Team All-Conference accolades. Barger's squad won the Avocado West League both years and earned a runner-up finish in the Division 2 State Championship. 

"She is a skillful and aggressive left side winger. Her one-on-one ability and crossing is her biggest strength," Brown said.

Barger is pursuing a degree in communications because she's interested in ways companies convey information and advertise. Her first name is Olivia but she goes by Lulu and she is the daughter of Jesse and Jenny Barger and has an older brother.

Nayeli Carcamo

"I chose Fullerton as my school because from the day I stepped on campus it just felt right. I saw my self walking around as if I was a student already and saw myself playing on that beautiful, natural grass field. It was kind of like love at first sight"

Carcamo hails from Downey and is set to graduate from Warren High School this spring. She played varsity soccer all four years and earned San Gabriel Valley All-Conference honors in 2017 and 2018. She also won the Golden Boot (league's top scorer) in 2016-17 and 2017-18. She set the school record for goals in a season with 33 and helped guide the team to three San Gabriel Valley Championships.

"She is a quick and talented forward with a goal scorers mentality. She will add speed and creativity to our attack," Brown said.

Barger is pursuing a degree in kinesiology and aspires to help athletes recover from injuries. She is the daughter of Ulises Carcamo and Ana Osorio and has one brother and one sister.

Maya Cooper

"I chose Cal State Fullerton because I love the coaching staff and the high level of academics and athletics. It is also close but not too close to home."

 Cooper, a Venice native, will graduate from Santa Monica High School this spring. She played for three years on her high school team and earned All-League honors as a freshman (second team) and sophomore (first team). She was also named to the Honor Roll all four years. 

"She has a great soccer awareness with the ability to control the tempo of the game with her skill and range of passing," Brown said.

Cooper has yet to declare a major. She is the daughter of Stephen and Carol Cooper and has one younger sister.

Megan Day

"When I went to see the school and it's soccer facilities, I knew right away that I wanted to be a Titan. Not only is it a great school and close to home, but it has an amazing soccer program and staff. I'm looking forward to playing for Demian and wearing that Titan uniform."

Day is a native of La Mirada and will graduate from La Mirada High School this spring. She played all four years on the soccer team and earned First Team All-League honors as a sophomore and junior. As a junior, she was named Whittier Daily News & Press Telegram Girl's Soccer Player of the Year. Furthermore, she was named Second Team All-CIF Division 2 as a sophomore and was named to the first team as a junior.

"She is a composed and confident center back. She can read the game extremely well, is great into tackles and has the ability to start attacks or simply maintain possession."

Day will pursue a degree in biology and is interested in becoming a veterinarian. She is the daughter of Robert and Amy day and has four siblings.

Meghan Schroh

"I chose Cal State Fullerton because the school is a great match for me and the soccer program was something that I am very excited to be apart of."

 A native of Carlsbad, Schroh will graduate from Carlsbad High School this spring. She played for her high school team for two years and two years for the US Developmental Academy. She also competed on the track and field team for a year. Schroh was named the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore.

"She is a left sided defender with great pace and the ability to dominate on set pieces in both boxes," Brown said.

She is pursuing a degree in psychology and would like to be a teacher and enjoys working with children. She is the daughter of Christopher and Melony Schroh and has one brother.

Jaida Wilson

"I believe Cal State Fullerton offers me a great opportunity to excel academically and grow as an athlete."

A native of Diamond Bar, Wilson will graduate from Diamond Bar High School this spring. She played soccer for a year at her high school and tennis for to years. She was named Rookie of the Year on the soccer team and was the tennis team MVP as a freshman and sophomore. 

"She is talented and athletic. She has the pace and skill to play as an attacking back or true forward," Brown said.

Wilson has yet to declare a major. She is the daughter of Raymond Wilson and Julia Yang and has four siblings.
