FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer could not hand UC Riverside its first loss of the season as the Highlanders won 3-1 on Sunday evening. Nano Oronoz scored for the Titans but it wasn't enough.
The Highlanders struck first at the 49:04 mark when Quinley Quezada received a low cross in the six-yard box and had a shot that was parried by Titan goalkeeper but right to Alexis Vera who ripped a shot that kissed off the near post and into the net.
Fullerton responded with an equalizer at the 59:37 mark thanks to a header by Oronoz off a Kaya Hawkinson corner kick. Oronoz was at the back post to receive the ball as she skied to head it into the net at the far post. It was her fifth goal of the year and Hawkinson's third assist.

UCR took the lead back thanks to Nerisse Bugho. She received a pass at the top of the box, turned to face the goal and dribbled around the lone defender between her and Sanders. She then shot low and to the far post for her first goal of the season.
Kristen Swales' game-tying shot was cleared off the line in the 80th by a UCR defender and then in the 85th minute UC Riverside secured the win on a goal from Madeline Feist. Vera dribbled up the left wing and into the 18-yard box, she then passed to Feist who was wide open in front of the goal and she powered it home.
UCR had 17 shots to nine for the Titans. Sanders made three saves while UCR goalkeeper Annie Baley made six saves. Both UCR and CSF won four corner kicks.
Fullerton resumes league play on Sunday at CSUN at 5 p.m. PT.
