Titans Spend Memorial Day on WWII Battleground Ahead of Tuesday's Match

BASTOGNE, Belgium – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer spent Memorial Day at the 101st Airborne Museum and touring the Battle of the Bugle battlefield.

The Titans arrived in Belgium early Monday morning and had a day filled with remembrance as they toured historic landmarks. The day began at the 101st Airborne Museum with a guided tour through dramatized scenes located at the reconstructed barracks.

Fullerton then traveled to the Bastogne War Museum where the team had the opportunity to experience a bomb shelter with captured audio from the war. "It was truly a heartwrenching experience. To be able to hear and feel what people were going through during the bombings was eye-opening" said Goalkeeper Tianna Sanders. She went on to say, "With it being Memorial Day, it made me realize how much soldiers sacrificed to ensure others safety, it was something I will never forget."

The final leg of the tour ended as the Titans hiked through Le Bois Jacque Forrest where soldiers fought at the frontlines during World War II. The scenic tour was riddled with history as foxholes were still intact and remnants of trees filled the land. "It gave me a different perspective on what was going at the time, and how close the frontlines were to each other," said Nano Oronoz

Cal State Fullerton will head to Amsterdam early Tuesday morning and enjoy a scenic bike ride through the city before heading to Rotterdam to face off against Excelsior/Barendrecht of the Eredivisie League at 7:00 a.m. PST "I look forward to another chance to play against a quality team," said Oronoz. She went on to say,"After getting an idea of what their style of play is like, I'm hoping to integrate that new knowledge into Tuesday's performance."
