Fullerton To Take On Northridge For Big West Conference Championship

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton will be squaring off against CSUN in the battle for the Big West Championship trophy on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. PT at Matador Field in Northridge, Calif.

After finishing the regular season with a win percentage of .658, head coach Demian Brown in his 11th season has led the Titans to the Big West Tournament every year since 2011.

The Titans now hold the Big West Conference record with most consecutive trips to the postseason.  This is the eighth appearance in a Big West Championship Tournament for Fullerton.

Fullerton went undefeated in nine out of ten home matches during the 2017 campaign. The Titans also recorded four win streaks for the season.

Fresh faces added a youthful presence as freshman Samantha McKenna debuted for the Titans and ended the regular season with three goals and three assists.  Her breakout year helped earn her a spot on the All-Conference All-Freshmen Team.

Senior Goalkeeper Morgan Bertsch acquired nine shutouts this season, defeating the previous 2006 season record where Karen Bardsley had eight shutouts. Bardsley still holds the program record with 10 shutouts in a single season.

On Thursday night, the Titans defeated the No. 1 seeded UC Irvine Anteaters and the No. 2 Matadors conquered the No.3 UC Riverside Highlanders.

Northridge put on an impressive show with Cynthia Sanchez having a record-breaking night. Sanchez scored her 22nd and 23rd career goals against UC Riverside on Thursday night.  The Matadors shutout the Highlanders 3-0. Co-Goalkeeper of the year Jovani McCaskill had two saves and notched her 29th career shutout.

The last time the Titans and Matador faced off was during the conference opener where Fullerton prevailed 3-0. The win over Northridge marked head coach Demian Brown's 100th career win.  That would go down as the only conference game the Matadors would lose.  Northridge's overall conference record was 4-1-3 for the year.

For Sunday's match, all Big West Conference students can attend the game free of charge with valid school ID. The live stream will be brought to you by FOX Sports Go which can be seen here.  The match's live stats can be viewed here.
