IRVINE- Calif. – Cal State Fullerton has qualified for the Big West Championship for the sixth consecutive year, a record in the Big West Conference.
In the battle for first place, Cal State Fullerton fell to UC Irvine on Sunday afternoon. Irvine clinched the division with a record of 10-5-4 (5-2-1), Fullerton falls to fourth with a record of 11-5-3 (3-3-1).
Irvine's Lili Andino scored the game-winning goal in the 30th minute to put the Anteaters on top 1-0.
"This was a great match today, it is unfortunate for our women to not end on the other side of a Big West Conference Championship," said head coach Demian Brown. "We are looking for a second chance at UC Irvine, and another chance at the Big West Conference Tournament Championship."
Fullerton will get a rematch of last year's first-round match against UC Irvine that took place on Nov. 3, 2016. The Titans and Anteaters were forced into PK's after going through two rounds of overtime ending with a 1-1 score. The Anteaters came out victorious 4-2 in the shootout.
The Titans play in the first round against UC Irvine on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. PT at Matador Soccer Field in Northridge, Calif.
