FULLERTON, Calif. – The early goal by Maribell Morales gave Cal State Fullerton 11-4-3 (4-2-1) the lead over Hawai'i 6-9-1 (1-5-1). The Titans went on to shutout the Wahine 3-0 on Thursday night.
With Thursday's match being senior night, the nine Fullerton seniors started off the match strong.
The goal by Morales was shot in the 10th minute with the assist from Atlanta Primus. Primus received the ball off the corner and played it to Morales to get the momentum going for Fullerton.
Senior Kaycee Hoover also notched an important goal in the 23rd minute off of Sarah Fajnor and Tala Haddad. The senior trio worked as a unit for the goal where Fajnor kicked the ball out to Haddad who made the pass to Hoover. Hoover now has four goals for the season.
The final goal came from Sophomore Atlanta Primus. Primus received the ball from Samantha McKenna and ran with it as she booted the ball in the 73rd minute. Primus now ties Fajnor with goals for the season with six.
The Titans defense held together as a strong unit tonight as they only allowed two shots, neither being on goal.
Offensively, Fullerton dominated with 22 shots, 13 being on goal. Fajnor led the night with eight shots.
Once again the Titans stayed true their own and out cornered their opponent 8-2.
"This is a fantastic for our women to play and dominate as they did," said head coach Demian Brown. "I was extremely happy with how we went forward, and just as happy with how we defended some really good players from Hawai'i."
Fullerton will now use this momentum to go into Sunday's match against UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium at 2:00 p.m. PT.
