FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's soccer swept the Big West Player of the Week honors as the squad picked up two shutout wins last weekend against San Diego and Grand Canyon at Titan Stadium. Senior forward Sarah Fajnor was named Big West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while fellow senior goalkeeper Morgan Bertsch garnered Big West Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Fajnor, a Fullerton native, helped the Titans finish 2-1 on the week, helping them overcome a loss at Denver (3-2) with successive shutout victories over San Diego (3-0) and Grand Canyon (4-0). It was Fajnor's second career honor.
Fajnor collected an assist on Atlanta Primus's goal in the Denver match to begin the week.
She tallied her first career brace in the San Diego match. Fajnor scored in the 35th minute on a penalty kick for the game-winning goal, and followed up with an insurance strike in the 90th minute.
Tied for second in the Big West with 13 points, Fajnor assisted on CSF's second goal in the 4-0 rout of the Lopes. Her three assists on the year lead the team and are tied for second in conference.
Bertsch, who hails from Simi Valley, Calif., made five saves in a 3-2 loss to Denver to start the week.
But she allowed no goals while playing the majority of minutes in back-to-back shutouts of San Diego (3-0) and Grand Canyon (4-0). Bertsch made one save against the Toreros and four more against the Lopes. The Titan defense was outstanding as Grand Canyon managed just seven shots for the match.
Bertsch earned a shared shutout against Grand Canyon as she was lifted for backup Tianna Sanders in the 78th minute with the 4-0 lead.
The Titans return to action on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. PT to host Cal State Northridge at Titan Stadium.
