Brown Inks Nine in 2016 Signing Class

FULLERTON, Calif. – Preparing to enter his 10th season as head coach of the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team, Demian Brown signed nine future Titans to National Letters of Intent as the diverse 2016 class is expected to help continue the program's recent success.

The Titans have made three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and have won three Big West regular season championships (2012, 2014, 2015) and three consecutive Big West Tournament titles (2013, 2014, 2015) over the last four years.

"Our 2016 class is a great mix of athleticism, goal scorers and solid defenders," Brown said. "We look forward to adding these talented student-athletes to our program as we continue to strive for excellence."

The nine-member class includes four forwards, three midfielders, and two defenders from Arizona, California, Texas, Washington and England.

 

 

Alea Acosta, M, Spokane, Wash./Mead HS/Crossfire United ECNL 

High School: Played three years (2012, 2013, 2015) of varsity soccer for head coach Kevin Houston playing in the midfield and at forward…following her freshman and sophomore seasons was named honorable mention for the Greater Spokane League…in 2013, helped the Panthers to a fourth-place finish at the Class 4A state championships and scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Union High School in the Class 4A state quarterfinals…missed her junior season with an injury…led the Greater Spokane League in goals and points during her senior season and was named to the all-GSL Team…was the Washington Interscholastic Association (WIAA) Athlete of Month  in October of 2015…scored the game winner in a 1-0 victory over Mt. Spokane High School…member of the National Honors Society…as a freshman competed in three events for the track and field team: 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100 meter relay.

ODP: Played five years of Olympic Development Soccer, with Washington from 2010-13 in Seattle and with Idaho in 2015 in Boise…played at midfield and forward for head coaches Malia Arrant (Washington) and Skyler Bell (Idaho)…participated in the 2015 ODP Region IV Championships and 2014 ODP National Training Camp…in 2013 was an ODP Region IV Championship finalist and was in the 2013 ODP Regional Player Pool…also participated in the 2012 ODP Pro + State Summer ID Camp.

Club: Played six years of club soccer for Washington Premier FC ECNL from 2011-14 in Puyallup, Wash. and for Crossfire United ECNL in Portland, Ore. from 2014-16….played in the midfield and at forward for head coaches Scott Halasz (WPFC) and Kibwe Kuffie (CU)…in 2015 trained with Aston Villa Ladies FC in Birmingham, England.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "A talented attacking midfielder with great field vision and passing ability. She loves the ball at her feet and is an exciting attacking player."

 

Dani Baldwin, D, San Diego, Calif./Del Norte HS/Carlsbad United 

High School: Played three years (2013, 2015-16) of varsity soccer for head coach Gary Ross at center back and center forward…as a freshman scored two goals and was named all-Valley League First Team…missed her sophomore season with a shoulder injury…named first team all-Avocado East after scoring six goals her junior year…all-league scholar-athlete for the Nighthawks for three years.

Club: Has played for Carlsbad United for eight years (2008-current)…has played center back, right back, center forward and right forward for head coach Michael Duggan…helped the team to three consecutive (2013, 2014, 2015) National Championship bronze medal finishes…also won 2014 Region IV championship and 2013 National Cup title.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "Athletic and strong are the words to describe Dani. She will add depth and support to the outside back position."

 

Marissa Cordero, D, San Juan Capistrano, Calif./San Juan Hills HS/West Coast Futbol Club

High School: Played four years of varsity soccer (2013-16) as a center back, holding central midfielder and outside back for head coach Farrel Moore…as a junior was named to the Southern Section CIF Second Team and received all-Sea View League honors….serving as a team captain during her senior year…played one year of lacrosse during freshman year.

Club: Has played for West Coast Futbol Club in Mission Viejo, Calif., for 11 years….for head coach Doug Swanson has played center back and holding center midfielder…at the U14 level, finished in second place for the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) So Cal Division and finished fifth at the ECNL National Finals…in August of 2013 won the Surf Cup championship…at the U15 level took first place during the ECNL season in the Southwestern Division and finished fourth in the ECNL National Finals…at the U16 level, finished first during the ECNL season for the Southwestern Division and won the ECNL national championship.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "A solid central defender. She is a great organizer and reads the game extremely well."

 

Veronica Cruz, F, Rio Rico, Ariz./Rio Rico HS/FC Sonora

High School: Played four years of varsity soccer (2013-16) for Daniel Rodriguez as a central midfielder and forward…through her first three seasons has totaled 79 goals, 63 assists and 221 points…following a 26-goal, nine-assist freshman campaign was named Division III Section III First Team and Division III Honorable Mention…in addition was named to the Arizona Republic All-State Second Team and Arizona Daily Star Southern Arizona Second Team…as a sophomore scored 28 goals and totaled 18 assists and was named the Division III Section III  Player of the Year along with first team honors…was also named Division III First Team and was on the  Arizona Daily Star Southern Arizona First Team…as a junior scored 25 goals while dishing 36 assists en route to Division III Section III First Team honors and Division III  First Team accolades…was named to the Arizona Daily Star Southern Arizona First Team after leading Division III in assists while finishing second in total points (86)…ranked second in the state in total points and third in assists…four-year member of the honor roll maintaining a 3.6 GPA…played three years of varsity volleyball and competed on the track and field team for two years, qualifying for the Division III 200 meter dash and 4x100 meter relay.

ODP: For two years played in the Arizona Olympic Development Program (ODP) in Phoenix, Ariz…played forward for head coach Doug Shank...placed fourth overall for the Western Region both years…scored 1 goal against Colorado.

Club: Played nine years of club soccer including the last two for FC Sonora in Tucson, Ariz…under head coach Joseph Embacher played both forward and central midfielder… won championships at FC Sol Invitational, Yavapai Cup, Soccer at the Summit, and Socctoberfest.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "A quick and crafty goal-scoring threat. She has great movement off the ball and is very good dribbling or running at the goal."

 

Sarah Davidson, M, Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park HS/Lonestar SC

High School: Has played three years of varsity soccer at attacking midfield, left midfield and center forward for head coach Carolyn Lynch…scored seven goals her junior year in 2015 and was named academic all-district.

Club: Played eight years of club soccer and the last three for Lonestar FC in Austin, Texas…plays left midfield and attacking midfield for head coach Wes Schevers…won the state cup.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "A fast and strong midfielder with a terrific left foot. She will provide us another attacking dimension on the width."

 

Hailey Pohevitz, F, Van Nuys, Calif./Daniel Pearl Magnet HS/Real So Cal

High School: Has played three years of varsity soccer at Birmingham Community Charter High School in the West Valley League…named a Player to Watch prior to her sophomore and junior seasons by the L.A. Daily News…photo editor of both The Pearl Post and Prestige Yearbook.

Club: Played seven years of club soccer most recently for Simi Valley Eclipse for one year and currently with Real So Cal in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "A true goal scorer, she has great speed and aggressiveness going forward. She has the ability to get herself into goal scoring positions and is an excellent finisher inside the box."

 

Atlanta Primus, F, London, England

Country/International: First called to play for England at the U15 level, participating in several camps and playing against Holland…at the U17 level attended a number of camps and played in friendly matches leading up to the European Championship Finals hosted in England in 2013 and finishing fourth...made three appearances and scored her first international goal against Portugal…at the U19 level attended camps leading up to European Championships…involved in friendly games against Norway, Germany, Italy and France…scored against France to make it 1-1 early in the second half...awards include: Claire Manning Award For Sport, Spirit Of Meoncross, Science Progress Award, Head Teachers Prize,  Outstanding Effort In One Or More Subjects, Sports Scholarship Award and Player Of The Season…father Linvoy Primus had a 16-year (1992-2008) professional career as a defender playing for Charlton Athletic, Barnet, Reading and Portsmouth.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "Another strong back-to-the-goal forward with the ability to play dangerous balls forward and score from outside the box. As a member of the England National Team, she has the international experience that will allow her to make a quick transition to collegiate soccer."

 

Mia Ramirez, M, Torrance, Calif./Torrance HS/LA Galaxy South Bay Elite

High School: Played four years of varsity soccer (2013-16) as a center back, outside back, midfielder and forward for head coach John Martin…as a freshman, the Tartars advanced to the CIF quarterfinals as the rookie was named to the Daily Breeze All-Area Second Team and was named Rookie of the Year by her team…as a sophomore and junior was named Best Defensive Player by her teammates while also earning all-Pioneer League and all-CIF honors…currently serving as team captain during her senior season…competed on the varsity track and field team for two years.

Club: Played one year for PV Exiles in Torrance, Calif., for head coach Paul Broom and played three years for LA Galaxy South Bay Elite in Manhattan Beach for head coach Gustavo Salazar…in 2013 won the Surf Cup and CRL championships.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "An all-around talented midfielder. She has the speed to play out wide and skill and dribbling ability to hold down the middle of the field."

 

Taylor Salgado, F, Covina, Calif./Charter Oak HS/Albion USA

High School: Played four years of varsity soccer (2013-16) as a forward and central midfielder for head coach Max Gebhardt…a two-year Sierra League scholar-athlete and was named second team all-league following her sophomore season…the Chargers moved to the Hacienda League and she was named  first team all-Hacienda League and was named to the San Gabriel Valley All-Area First Team as a junior…also received all-league academic honors and was named team MVP…has served as team captain for the Chargers for the last two years.

Club: Since 2011 has played in the midfield and at forward for Albion USA under head coaches Noah Kooiman and Tony Scheri…ESPN Disney Showcase Champions for the 2013-14 campaign, and traveled to Sweden to train with U.S. Women's National team as a reward for winning the showcase…2015 Surf Cup champions…in the 2014 Olympic Development Pool.

Head Coach Demian Brown: "Strong, skillful attacking player. Has the ability to strike from distance as well as win balls in the air. She will bring a much needed element of size and speed to our attack."
