Burkenroad Takes Home Player of the Week Honors

Big West Release

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton senior Christina Burkenroad garnered Big West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors for her role in season-opening victories over Liberty and George Washington.

The midfielder collected three goals and one assist over the weekend.  She netted her sixth career game-winning goal in Friday's 1-0 shutout of Liberty in the opener of the Fullerton Tournament.  Burkenroad hammered home a cross to the back post in the 85th minute to secure the win.

Against the Colonials, Burkenroad notched the opening goal of the match, assisted on what turned out to be the game-winning strike, and provided a late insurance goal as the Titans breezed to a 4-1 victory.

Five of the six shots she took over the games were on target, and her performance helped Cal State Fullerton start a season 2-0 for the first time since 2008.

Dating back to 2014, Burkenroad has now scored a goal in five straight matches, and has tallied at least one point in seven consecutive games.

The San Diego, Calif., native is one of three Titans, the others Dolores Browning and Michelle Rice, to produce seven straight games with at least one point, and only Browning has totaled more consecutive games with a goal, scoring 11 goals in seven straight games from Oct. 21, 1995-Aug. 31, 1996.

This is Burkenroad's second Player of the Week honor.

Others nominated: Megan Abutin (Cal Poly); Destinney Duron (CSUN); Ashley Gonzales (Long Beach State); Blanca Barrio (UC Riverside)
