LMU Scores Golden Goal in Double Overtime

FULLERTON, Calif. – Loyola Marymount's Sarah Sanger scored the match's golden goal in the 109th minute to lead the Lions to a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton at Sullivan Field on Sunday afternoon.

Sanger made a long run up the right flank and placed her shot to the far post, scoring her second goal of the year to propel LMU to victory with less than two minutes to play in double overtime.

The Titans (1-5-2) were playing in their sixth overtime match of the year as Fullerton lost its fifth game of the season that was decided by one goal. Fullerton was also shut out for the third time this year.

Cal State Fullerton outshot LMU 13-7, placing four shots on target, while the Lions (4-1-1) put three attempts on frame.

In the 29th minute, Jazzmin Mancilla hit the crossbar for the Titans while Christina Burkenroad, Ali White and Tala Haddad led Fullerton with two shots apiece.

Jennifer Staurt made two saves for Fullerton while Sophia Leksan made four stops for LMU.

After playing its last four games on the road, Cal State Fullerton returns to Titan Stadium on Thursday to host Idaho State at 7 p.m.  CSF students receive FREE admission with their Titan I.D. card. CSF Students in attendance will receive a rally buff while supplies last on Thursday.

Notes:  Six of Fullerton's first eight matches of the year have entered overtime, and the Titans are 0-4-2 in those games...Fullerton is 13-14-23 in extra time during Head Coach Demian Brown's eight seasons…Fullerton has lost five games this season by one goal – four in overtime…the Titans were shut out for the third time in 2014.
