Trio of Titans Receive All-Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Sophomore Morgan Batcheller, senior Lindsey Maricic and senior Erica Mazeau, were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire All- West Region Team, it was announced by the NSCAA on Wednesday.

Mazeau, a midfielder from Yorba Linda, Calif., was named to the All-West Region second team, while Maricic and Batcheller received third team honors.

 

"I'm very happy for all three of our Titans," head coach Demian Brown said. "For our student-athletes to be recognized on this level is a special accomplishment that represents their incredible importance to our program."

 

The awards come after a very successful season for the Titans (8-7-7), who made their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance after winning their fourth Big West Tournament title. The Titans suffered a 1-0 loss to then No. 17 Stanford in the NCAA Tournament first round on Nov. 15.

 

For Fullerton, it marks the first time the women's soccer program has earned three all-region nods in one season.
Current Fullerton assistant coach Stacey Fox was the last Titan to earn all-region honors when she was named to the second team in 2012.

 

Mazeau, the 2013 Big West Conference Midfielder of the Year, led the Titans in scoring with a total of 14 points, producing team highs in goals (4) and assists (6).

 

Mazeau finished her Titan career with 14 assists, which rank eighth all-time in program history.
Of her six assists during the season, three were game winners, bringing her career total to six career game-winning assists, tying for second in program history.

 

Maricic, named the 2013 Big West Goalkeeper of the Year, led the conference in saves (104), goals against average (0.73) and save percentage (.867).

 

In Fullerton single-season history, the Alta Loma, Calif., native's 104 saves rank third all-time, followed by 5.2 saves per game (5th), .867 save percentage (2nd), 0.73 goals against average (3rd) and five shutouts (T-5th).
In addition, Maricic is just the third goalkeeper in Titan history to reach the 200-save club, and she finished her career with 245 career saves, ranking second only behind Karen Bardsley's all-time record of 312. In addition, Marcic set the all-time mark for save percentage (.806) in program history, followed by her mark of 4.1 career saves per game which ranks fifth all-time at Fullerton as well as goals against average (0.94; 3rd), wins (24; T-2nd),  and shutouts (16; 2nd).

 

Batcheller, just a sophomore, started all 22 games in 2013, and helped anchor a Titan defense that led the Big West in goals allowed (17) and goals against average (0.71) while also totaling seven shutouts.
In addition, the Carlsbad, Calif., native, scored Fullerton's golden goal in a 2-1 victory at USC and added a score against Cal State Northridge.

 

Fullerton, the No. 4 seed at the Big West Tournament, clinched the Big West Conference's automatic NCAA Tournament berth after dispatching No. 3 seed UC Riverside in the championship match courtesy of a 2-1 advantage in a penalty kick shootout after the teams battled to a 1-1 draw following 110 minutes of regulation (90) and overtime (20) on Nov. 10.

 

Titan goalkeeper and Big West Tournament Most Valuable Player Katie Pulliam made three stops during the shootout, after saving two Cal Poly penalty kicks in the semifinals on Nov. 7. The Titans, the No. 4 and lowest seed at the Big West Tournament, ousted No. 1 seeded Cal Poly on Nov. 7 and eliminated the third-seeded Highlanders on Nov. 10.
Fullerton hosted the Big West Tournament at Titan Stadium after winning the 2012 Big West regular season championship.
The NSCAA/Continental Tire All-America Teams are scheduled to be released Friday, Dec. 6.
