ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –Martina Edberg will be the first Cal State Fullerton women's golfer to compete at the NCAA Championship since the program was reinstated as her second-place finish at the Albuquerque Regional advanced the senior to the final week of collegiate competition.
The national championship will be May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms, in Sugar Grove, Illinois, hosted by Northern Illinois University. The final three days of the championship will be televised live by the Golf Channel.
Edberg shot an even-par round of 72 in the third and final round at The Championship Golf Course and remained in second place, finishing with a total three-round score of 3-under-par 213.
The native of Glumslov, Sweden was one of six individuals competing at the Albuquerque Regional, and was the top finishing individual to advance claiming one of the three spots along with Gonzaga's Bianca Pagdanganan and Campbell's Nadine White.
Stanford's Albane Valenzuela topped the leaderboard with a three-round score of 6-under-par 210 while Pepperdine's Tatiana Wijaya finished with the same score as Edberg.
Edberg totaled 11 birdies over the last three days.
The senior competed in her third consecutive NCAA Regional, advancing to the NCAA Championship for the first time in her career. The Titans reinstated the women's golf program for the 2009-10 season.
A total of 384 participants competed in regional play. Of these players, 132 advanced to the championships finals. Six teams and three individuals advanced from each regional.
The 2017 Big West Conference individual champion and 2017 Big West Player of the Year has posted top-three finishes in 10 of the 11 tournaments that she has competed in this season.
