Edberg Leads and Titans Sit in Sixth After Opening Day at Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. – For the fourth straight tournament, Cal State Fullerton senior Martina Edberg holds the lead after 36 holes as she finds herself at the top of the individual leaderboard after day one of the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Memphis at Ridgeway Country Club in Germantown, Tenn.

Edberg carded a 2-under 141 after 36 holes Monday and holds a three-stroke lead over Moa Folke of Murray State. Edberg was the only player to record a score under par on Monday. The Titans senior once again posted a score in the 60s Monday as she posted a 2-under 69 in the opening round. She would eventually drop down to 1-over for the tournament after a few struggles in round two but evened out the round and went into the clubhouse with an even-par 72 in round two. Edberg leads the field of 73 players after recording four birdies on the day, the second most of the field. She also tied for second in the field in scoring average on par-3's, posting a 2.80 stroke average and an overall score of 1-under on such holes.

As for the Titans, the team currently sits in sixth overall in the team standings after posting a 47-over 315 on day one. Fullerton recorded a 305 in round one and followed that up with a 310 in the second and final round of the day. The Titans currently trail day-one leader and host Memphis after the Tigers paced the 13-team field with a 30-over 598 after 36 holes. Houston Baptist sits just one stroke back while Murray State is in third place at 36-over through two rounds of play.

Sophomore Pauline Welker currently holds the Titans second-best score of the tournament after she posted a 15-over 157 on day one. Welker carded an 8-over 79 in the first round and followed that with a 7-over 78 in round two. She currently sits in a tie for 38th place while teammate Elsa Lundquist is just one stroke back with a 16-over 158. Lundquist is tied for 41st place.

Daniella Uy rounded out the team's scoring as she carded a 17-over 159 to place herself in a tie for 46th place. Felicia Medalla, the fifth Titans golfer at the tournament, carded a 24-over 166 and currently sits in 70th place.

Edberg will go for her third victory in four tournaments this fall as the Titans wrap up the first half of their 2016-17 schedule with the final 18 holes of the Memphis Women's Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:15 a.m. ET.
