STANFORD, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton junior Martina Edberg teed off her opening round at the NCAA Stanford Regional hosted by Stanford at the Stanford Golf Course on Thursday.

Edberg carded a 6-over 77 after the opening round of the NCAA Stanford Regional, placing her in a tie for 64th place in the 96-player field, but just nine strokes back of leader Katrina Prendergast of Colorado State, who shot a 3-under 68 on Thursday. Edberg is also just six strokes back of the top-10 on the individual leaderboard.

Edberg teed off at 8:20 a.m. on hole No. 1, starting off with a birdie on the 501-yard, par-5 opening hole. She would bogey the next two holes to place her a 1-over and, following two pars, recorded a double on the par-4 No. 6 to put her at 3-over. She finished the front nine at 5-over but two birdies in her first three holes on the back nine put her back at 3-over. Edberg would card three more bogeys on the last six holes to finish at 6-over on the day.

The Titans leading scorer in 2015-16, Edberg will tee off round two at 8:20 a.m. on Friday as she is paired with fellow Big West golfer Kassidy Teare (+4) of Long Beach State and Kristin Simonsen (+5) of Fresno State on hole No. 10.

The UC Davis duo of Andrea Wong and Paige Lee are tied for 16th and 26th after shooting rounds of 72 and 73 respectively on Thursday.

Overall, No. 2 ranked USC leads the 18-team field after posting a collective 3-over 287 after the first 18 holes. No. 15 Virginia is one stroke back at 4-over and No. 12 Stanford is third with a 5-over 289. No. 26 Texas Tech (+7) and Michigan State (+7) are tied for fourth place while Colorado and Wake Forest are tied for sixth place at 11-over after the first round. Big West Conference champion UC Riverside is currently in a tie for 16th place after the first day.

The top six teams and top three individual performers will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Oregon and held on May 20-25 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
