SEAL BEACH, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's golf team finished the opening day of the The Gold Rush presented by Southern California Ford Dealers tied for eighth place Monday at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif. 

The Titans finished the first 36 holes of the tournament with a collective score of 624, 48-over par and tied with fellow Big West Conference dweller UC Irvine for eighth place. Hosts Long Beach State finished the day atop the leaderboard with a 16-over 592, two shots ahead of Fresno State and three up on third-place Colorado State.

Freshman Brittany Farrell had a solid day for the Titans, shooting a 4-over 148 through 36 holes, placing her in seventh place overall on the individual leaderboard. Farrell carded five birdies on the day including four in the second round, where she shot an even-par 72, tying her career best. Farrell carded a 72 at the Rose City Collegiate back in September, a tournament the Titans would go on to win.

Junior Nadine Rivera also had a career best on Monday, posting a 1-over 73 in the second round after carding an 83 during the first 18 holes. The 1-over marks her best score ever as a Titan, eclipsing the 76 she posted on two occasions, the last coming in the third round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Oct. 23. Rivera is currently tied for 39th place overall.

Tisha Alyn Abrea and Martina Edberg struggled in their spring debuts as they posted a 17-over 161 and 20-over 164 respectively. Abrea was able to card a 5-over 77 in the opening round thanks to three birdies but she could not improve as she failed to record a birdie in the second round. Edberg had four birdies on the day but she could not overcome a rough start after posting an 83 in the opening round.

Dakota Brown rounded out the Titans scoring as she posted a 162 on day one, placing her in a tie for 56th place.

The Titans will return to action for the final round of The Gold Rush on Tuesday.
