SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton sophomore Makayla Mier shot a 3-over-par 76 to lead a group of three Titans in the top 20 on Sunday as Fullerton finished day one of the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championships in fourth place at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club.

The Titans combined to shoot a 20-over-par 312 to finish one shot back of third-place UC Irvine and six shots ahead of fifth-place Cal State Northridge. Three-time defending champion UC Davis sprinted away from the field to lead after day one with a 3-under-par 289, standing eight shots clear of second-place Long Beach State (+5, 297).

For Mier, it marked her third-consecutive 76 in an opening round and is tied for her third-lowest round as a Titan, standing behind only the back-to-back 74's carded at the Washington State Cougar Cup to open the year.

Joining Mier in the top 20 was sophomore Tisha Alyn Abrea, who finished with a 4-over 77 to stand in a tie for 12th, and senior Deidre Crabtree, who is tied for 16th with a 6-over-par-79.

Sophomore Seri Lee who, at one point, was in the top 10 after an even-par front nine, finished in a tie for 21st at 7-over (80) and was joined by teammate Neomi Hunt in a group of 10 players tied for the spot.

Last year's individual champion, Bev Vatananugulkit of UC Davis, leads the field once again after firing a 4-under 69 in the opening round as the Aggies have all five of their competitors in the top 10.

Monday's second round tees off at 9 a.m., with the Titans in the second group along with Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly slated to begin at 9:40 a.m. Live scoring is available by clicking here: http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/index.cfm?tournament_id=4236
