Low Round Helps Titans to Solid Third in Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton shot the lowest final round of the tournament on Sunday and four individuals finished among the top 25, helping the Titans to a steady third-place finish at the 2012 Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Wyoming at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.

Fullerton's final-round 297 was three shots better than the next lowest score on the last day, helping the Titans rebound after a disasterous second round on Saturday that knocked them from second to third after 36 holes. Cal State Fullerton finished just one shot behind second-place College of Charleston and 14 shots back of tournament champion Fresno State, which shot a tournament-record 21-over-par 885 for 54 holes.

The biggest mover in the final round for the Titans was senior Deidre Crabtree, who shot even-par on Sunday to finish with a 7-over-par 223 and move into a four-way tie for seventh. Crabtree leapt 11 spots in the standings after ending day one in a tie for 18th.

Joining her in seventh was senior Taylor Fowler, who shot a 4-over-par 76 on Sunday, while sophomore Tisha Alyn Abrea climbed four spots on the final day, shooting an 8-over-par 224 to end up in 11th place.

Sophomore Seri Lee, who finished the first 36 holes on Saturday with a pair of 77's, improved by two strokes on Sunday, ending in a tie for 25th with a 13-over-par 229, while sophomore Makayla Mier finished in a tie for 55th with a 24-over-par 240.

Cal State Fullerton closes out the fall portion of its schedule next week, travelling to the Fighting Camel Classic hosted by Campbell University on Oct. 22-23 in Buies Creek, N.C.
