Titans Lose Tightly Contested Game at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.  – Cal State Fullerton women's basketball dropped a tightly contested game against CSU Bakersfield, 64-58, Monday night at the Icardo Center. The Titans drop to 7-9 on the year and 2-5 in conference play.

Fujika Nimmo had another impressive outing for the Titans, scoring a game-high 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line. Nimmo has scored 20+ points in five games this season.

Nimmo was unstoppable in the first quarter of action as she scored 13 of the Titans 15 points to stay within striking distance of the Roadrunners. The senior guard was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field in the first quarter including 2-for-2 from three-point distance.

After trailing 38-33 at halftime, the Titans came back to take the lead in the third quarter on a beautiful pass from Ashlee Lewis to find a cutting Nimmo for an easy layup. The two teams went back-and-forth in the second half for a total of 15 lead changes.

Fullerton trailed by just four points, 58-56, with 28 seconds remaining but turned the ball over on the inbounds pass which forced them to start fouling the Roadrunners late. Turnovers plagued the Titans as they had six in the fourth quarter and 19 in the game.

The Titans look to bounce back Thursday night as rivals Long Beach State come to Titan Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT.
