Pepperdine Spoils Fullerton’s Return to Titan Gym

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Led by Allie Green's 29-point performance, Pepperdine earned its first victory of the season with a 69-58 win over Cal State Fullerton at Titan Gym on Saturday night.
 

The Titans (2-8) have lost four consecutive games while Pepperdine is now 1-9 on the year.

 

Green shot 12-of-19 from the floor, 4-of-5 from three-point range and added seven rebounds and two blocked shots, while Yasmine Robinson-Bacote poured in 18 points and Barbara Sitanggan dished out a game-high nine assists for the Waves.

 

Iman Lathan led Fullerton for the sixth-straight game scoring 19 points while recording her first double-double of the season with a career-high 11 rebounds that went along with five assists and three steals.

 

Sophomore Daeja Smith produced her fourth double-double of the year scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds – eight on the offensive end. Jade Vega led Fullerton with six assists and scored nine points knocking down three 3-pointers.

 

The Titans shot a cool 31.3 percent (21-of-67) from the floor compared with Pepperdine's clip of .415 (27-of-65).

 

The Waves scored 16 points off Fullerton's 14 turnovers and the Pepperdine bench outscored Fullerton's 38-5.

 

A seven-minute period between the second and third quarters allowed the Waves to build a five-point advantage to a 22-point lead.

 

Pepperdine ended the first half on a 10-0 run over the final three minutes taking a 40-25 lead into the locker room, and extended that lead to 22 points, 51-29, after opening the third quarter outscoring Fullerton 11-4.

 

Cal State Fullerton closed 59-48 with 6:33 to play after a Vega three-pointer – her third of the game – and another Titan long distance basket from Jordan Jackson cut Pepperdine's lead to 63-53 with five minutes to go, but Pepperdine scored on back-to-back possessions to stop Fullerton's momentum.

 

Green scored 20 points in the first half for Pepperdine on an 8-of-9 shooting performance including a perfect 4-of-4 effort from three-point range.

 

Pepperdine went on a 9-0 run in the first quarter to take a 12-3 lead as the Titans were held scoreless for nearly five minutes. Vega's three-pointer at the 7:05 mark was Fullerton's first score of the game, and her second basket of the game was another long distance basket at the 1:56 mark. The Titans ended the quarter trailing 13-10.

 

Cal State Fullerton is in the middle of a four-game homestand to close the non-conference portion of the schedule, and will host San Diego State at 5 p.m., Thursday, at Titan Gym as part of a doubleheader with the Titans' men's team.
