Men's Soccer Hosts Cal Poly

Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton opens the Big West Conference portion of its 2009 men's soccer schedule Wednesday night with a home match against Cal Poly SLO in Titan Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Titans carry a 4-3-1 record after a pair of overtime matches over the weekend in their Big West Challenge. They played Coastal Carolina to a 1-1 draw over 110 minutes before losing in the fourth minute of overtime on Sunday to the University of Denver, 2-1, on a penalty kick.

Cal Poly was ranked in the national Top 25 early in the season but the Mustangs have compiled a 2-6-0 record. They are 0-5 away from San Luis Obispo. Cal Poly has won the last four meetings with Fullerton, outscoring the Titans by a combined score of 9-1. The two teams split a pair of meetings in both 2005 and 2006.

Cal Poly has scored 10 goals in 8 matches with David Zamora and Jacob Hustedt leading the way with two each. Brett Finkelstein (2-3-0) and Patrick McLain (0-2-0) have shared goaltending duties.

Fullerton is led in scoring by Celso Alvarez, who has 4 goals and one assist. Shay Spitz, Michael Denny and Jamall Farquharson each have two scores. Trevor Whiddon has played all but 9 minutes in net for Fullerton with a 1.09 goals against average.

The Titans complete their non-conference schedule with a Saturday match at Cal State Bakersfield.
