Fullerton, Calif. - Amir Shafii and German Moreno put Cal State Fullerton ahead in the first half and Shay Spitz applied the clincher in the 89th minute as the Titans erupted for a season-high three goals Sunday evening in a 3-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over visiting Cal State Bakersfield.

The win improved Fullerton's overall record to 6-8-2 while the Roadrunners, playing their 13th game of their first Divl I season away from home, fell to 3-9-4.

Shafii lined a carom off a Bakersfield defender from about 20 yards out, beating goalkeeper Steve Trojanowski to the right post in the sixth minute. Moreno drilled a rebound of his own shot off Trojanowski past the keeper in the 24th minute. Trojanowski made 6 of his 8 saves in the first half as the Titans outshot the visitors, 11-5, and put 8 of them on goal.

But Bakersfield was the aggressor much of the second half. Manny Garcia fed Joe Polifroni for a goal and the momentum in the 60th minute. But the Titans put the game out of reach when Moreno made a deft pass to Spitz on the right flank and he feinted left and beat Trojanowski to the right near post.

Brent Douglas got the win in the net for the Titans and made 3 saves.

Fullerton plays only one match next week, traveling to UC Irvine on Saturday night.
