Fullerton, Calif. - John Crawley scored 96 seconds into the match and UNLV made it stand up for a 1-0 men's soccer victory Friday afternoon over Cal State Fullerton in a tournament in Titan Stadium.

A long rebound of a corner kick caromed to Crawley, who fired a blast from about 30 yards that got into the upper righthand corner of the net past Fullerton freshman goalkeeper Trevor Whiddon, who was making his collegiate debut.

UNLV's Hawk Mummey made 9 saves for the shutout for UNLV, now 3-0, as Fullerton dominated the action but not the scoreboard. Fullerton fell to 1-2 and will play again Sunday at 7 p.m. against Cal State Bakersfield, which lost to Cal State Northridge, 3-0, earlier Friday. CSUN faces UNLV at 4:30 p.m. following a 1 p.m. women's match between Fullerton and Santa Clara.

Fullerton outshot UNLV, 17-6, and had more cornerkicks, 5-2. UNLV received four yellow cards to one for the Titans.

"I was once again pleased with the way we played," said Fullerton Head Coach Bob Ammann. "I felt that we were the better team but, unfortunately, in soccer the better team doesnt always come away victorious. There were a number of positives including the fact that we were able to once again get a couple of players their first taste of D-1 soccer.

"The goal that we gave up was a wonder strike and you just have to tip your hat. The fact that it happen so early was just another reason not to be too concerned. I felt our response was swift and I was proud of the boys and the character and effort they showed throughout the game.

"Sundays game versus Bakersfield will be another hard fought game. I watched their game versus Northridge and even a man down for 80 minutes they created a number of chances. We will need to come ready top play."
