FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer defeated Cal 3-1 in its season opener Thursday night at Titan Stadium.

The Titans got off to a quick start, scoring in the 12th minute on a mistake by the Cal defense that first-year transfer Sander Forø took advantage of.

Fullerton went into the locker room at halftime with a 1-0 lead and had the advantage over Cal in shots (6-3) and corner kicks (2-0).

Just eight minutes into the second half the Titans went down a man as defender Jose Calderon was sent off the field with a red card. However, the Titans kept on the attack and took a 2-0 lead just six minutes later on a goal by another first-year transfer, Julian Madrigal. Ernesto Cueva and Erick Serrano both had great passes that led to Madrigal's goal.

Sebastian Cruz all but sealed the game in the 67th minute, scoring on a great assist by Reziq Banihani

The Golden Bears would score in the 73rd minute but the Titans held onto the lead to secure the win while being man short for the final 37 minutes of the match.

The Titans are back in action Sunday evening against Life Pacific at Titan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT.
